8 Self-Love Books Every Woman Should Read + Free Printable Book List
#1 You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay
I read this incredible book back in 2012. I was in a major depression after a breakup, a miscarriage, and a lot of other things going wrong in a short period of time. It was one of the first personal development books I ever read, and it changed my life. Louise Hay shows you how to reconnect to your wounded inner child and see yourself as lovable no matter what you’ve been through. I highly recommend also grabbing the companion workbook to help you apply her teachings and journal through her powerful prompts.
#2 Playing Big by Tara Mohr
I love Tara’s approach to self-love and creating personal success. It doesn’t come from a space of hustle and do more so you can be more. Rather, she reminds you that you are capable of moving beyond what you think is possible for you. She empowers you to go for what you really want in life, even if it scares you. She also shares some powerful techniques to help you unhook from your inner mean girl and instead connect to your inner mentor, the voice inside you that actually supports your dreams rather than trying to hold you back.
#3 Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
If you haven’t already read Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert, please grab a copy now! This is one of my all-time favorite books, because it’s the true story of a woman had everything she thought she wanted only to realize it wasn’t the life she was meant to be living. She committed the ultimate act of self-love by being brave enough to walk away from good enough to pursue a life that actually lit her up. The book follows her 12 month self-love journey through Italy, India, and Indonesia.
#4 The Gifts of Imperfection by Dr. Brene Brown
I’ll be honest, I pretty much love everything this woman writes! You really can’t go wrong with any of her books. What I love about The Gifts of Imperfection, is that Dr. Brene Brown speaks openly about her own fears and insecurities to remind you that we are all in the same boat. We all feel “not enough” and “not worthy” at times, and our imperfection is what makes us beautifully human. She also encourages us to be open and vulnerable with others so we can live more authentic “wholehearted” lives.
#5 You Woke Up Worthy: A 21-Day Self-Love Journey for Women with Big Dreams by Britny West
This is a shameless self-plug, but I’d be remiss to not include my own self-love book! You Woke Up Worthy is based on a self-love course I created and ran back in December 2017 for a group of my clients. The experience was so powerful, that I knew I had to make it accessible to more women and adapt it into a book! Over the course of 21 days, you’ll work through your feelings of unworthiness, tap into your true worth and inner desires, re-connect to your higher self and intuition, declutter and let go of what’s no longer serving you, and start working towards creating your dream life.
If you’re trying to decide between the Kindle version or the workbook version, keep in mind the e-book version does not include the illustrations, coloring pages, and journaling pages due to formatting constraints. The e-book is best suited for you if you prefer to write in your own journal.
Bonus: Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with a screenshot of your order on Amazon and I’ll add you into the private Facebook course community (value: $97)
#6 Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh
This beautiful book, originally published back in 1955, found me back in 2013 exactly when I needed it. It’s a short book, but packed full of timeless wisdom for all women. Anne Morrow Lindbergh takes her inspiration from a solitary holiday by the seaside, using the shells she finds to illustrate important life lessons she’s learned on what it means to be a woman in the modern world. Surprisingly her lessons still apply to our lives today, maybe even more so!
#7 The Goddess Revolution by Mel Wells
If you’ve ever struggled with your relationship with food and loving the skin you’re in, I highly recommend The Goddess Revolution. I’m always working on the relationship I have with my body, because let’s face it – I often don’t give it the love and appreciation it deserves. As a curvy woman, I often feel self-conscious and not beautiful when comparing myself to the ideal images plastered all over the place in our society. It’s been a journey for me learning how to appreciate the body I have right now. Mel Wells has been an instrumental part of this journey as she has taught me to love my body for more than just what it looks like but also as a beautiful extension of my soul and life here on Earth.
#8 You are a Badass by Jen Sincero
This brilliant bestselling book will have you laughing your ass off and feeling better than ever about yourself by the end of it. Jen Sincero has a wicked sense of humor that definitely makes this not-your-average-self-help-read. The personal storytelling, powerful insights, and wisdom bombs inside will help you get over your worst doubts and fears so you can start living your best life today.
